Sumeyye Seker earned her B.Sc. degree in Medical Engineering, complemented by international academic exchange experiences in Turkiye, Malaysia, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom. She then earned her M.S. degree from Imperial College London in 2021 and her Ph.D. in NanoEngineering from the University of California, San Diego, in 2026, where she worked under the supervision of Professor Joseph Wang. She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Seker’s research interests include biosensors, wearable and flexible electronics, electrochemical sensing, and point-of-care diagnostics, with applications in human health, plant health, and environmental monitoring. She has authored peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Biosensors and Bioelectronics, Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, ACS Sensors, and Talanta. Her research, innovation, and academic leadership have been recognized through numerous competitive fellowships and honors, including the Merkin Fellowship, AAUW International Fellowship, Frieda Daum Urey Academic Fellowship, and Arthur and Janice Boni Entrepreneurial Fellowship, as well as the ACS Leadership Award for the Promotion of DEIR, selection as a Racial Equity Leaders Fellow at the Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego, and induction into the Bouchet Graduate Honor Society.
